Royce Reed is the ex-girlfriend of basketball star Dwight Howard who plays center and sometimes power forward for Orlando Magic of the NBA. Royce met him when she was a dancer for Orlando Magic during the 2005-06 season. She is also a former Miami Heat dancer. She is the mother of his illegitimate son, Braylon Joshua Robert Howard, who was born on November 18, 2007. Royce Reed's mother issued the following statement after the birth of their child. "Royce and Dwight are very happy. They are very good friends. How close they are, well, you'd have to talk to them. I'm just the grandma. It was not something that was planned. It was a beautiful surprise, though."
In April, 2008, Royce Reed took Howard to court for child support after calling him a deadbeat dad in her blog and an ESPN interview. On December 11, 2009, Howard reportedly filed two lawsuits against her, including one for $9.2 million in damages for defamation of character and another one for increased custody of their child.
