Russell Knight from "Mounted in Alaska," who is also known as Russ Knight, stars in the History Channel reality docu-series. He is the owner of Knight's Taxidermy.

Russell Knight's life story reads like an epic adventure novel. Known worldwide as one of the best in his business, this master craftsman is considered a true pioneer of taxidermy. With a thriving company called Knight's Taxidermy, Russ ("Mounted in Alaska") is living his dream of preserving natural history each and every day. But it's a dream and a journey that actually began in the backwoods of Mississippi. Russ has clients on every continent. His company Knight's Taxidermy is based in Anchorage, Alaska, but Russ's journey to the last frontier is an adventure that started 40 years and 6,000 miles away in a small Mississippi town.

Russ Knight can still remember the day he bought a magazine that would change his life—and the future of taxidermy—forever. It was in the back of that magazine that Russ spotted a mail-in course to get a taxidermy license. He completed the course, and the rest is history, because even then 13-year-old Russ had a hunch history held a place for him.

In 1977 at the age of 18, Mississippi had seen the last of Russ—he and his high school sweetheart headed for the last frontier where he found his first job as a full time taxidermist.

By 1979 Russ had won his first national taxidermy competition award and started to get the recognition that would catapult him to the top.

An avid outdoorsman, Russ is a visionary with a larger than life persona and an imagination that never ends. Always inventing, it was Russ who created, patented, and sold the first "fish hat"—a hat with a fish mount on it—head on the front, tail on the back. This silly idea earned him enough money to circle the globe three times on hunting expeditions into some of the most treacherous places on the planet.

His career success is an inspiring tale of a self made man who has changed the way we preserve natural history. Largely self-taught in his skills, Russ has been through just about all of the trials and tribulations of taxidermy. He's seen it all - from the old school techniques to the modern day methods—many of which he has created himself.

A published author, civil war buff and proud conservationist—this trailblazing pioneer wakes up every morning in Alaska full of energy, vigor, and a passion to preserve natural history.

With 33 years of experience now under his belt, Russ claims he's just getting started.
