Ryan-James Hatanaka attended New York University's Tisch Graduate Acting Program, where he received the first ever Brienin Bryant Scholarship Award in 2014. While there, he performed onstage in "The Dwarfs," directed by JoAnne Akalaitis, "Richard III," directed by Jack Fletcher, "The Seagull," directed by Richard Feldman, and "Summer & Smoke," directed by Ken Washington. Since graduating, his theatrical credits include "King Lear" at The Public Theater; "Big Love" at Signature Theatre; "Edith" at the Berkshire Theatre Festival; "The Brothers Karamazov," "The Glass Menagerie," "Richard III,""Baseball: A Vocal Masque" and "A Month in the Country" at National Theatre School, and "The Sword in the Stone" and "The Complete Works of Shakespeare: Abridged" at Theatre New Brunswick, with which he toured Canada, teaching elementary, middle and high school children an introduction to Shakespeare, including text work, staging, and combat choreography.

On television, Hatanaka guest starred in NBC's "Chicago PD" and MTV's "Eye Candy."

Short film credits include "The Family Romance" and "Hope."
