Sally Cohn from "America's Got Talent 2010" is one of the Top 48 acts in Season 5 of the NBC talent competition series.She is a 75-year-old hand whistler who performed "America the Beautiful" for her audition in Portland, Oregon. She is a retired teacher.
Sally Cohn was born in 1934 in Portland, Oregon. She discovered whistling notes with her cupped hands when she was 12, and developed this talent with the help of Bing Crosby records. She first performed at Oregon State College in 1950. Taping
herself and doing duets with cassettes in the 1960s helped her to enhance her hand whistling technique. In the 1970s, she whistled in church choirs and performed at political action fundraisers. In her youth, she taught school and did clerical work. She later did a 25-year stint as a clerical specialist in an addictions clinic, retiring in 1998. She now does volunteer work at several schools and types term papers and manuscripts. Her favorite gig is teaching middle school kids at a church camp each summer, and this includes a hand-whistling workshop.
