Previously, Sharon Osbourne was one of the hosts of FOX's variety hour, "Osbournes: Reloaded." She also hosted VH1's reality series, "Rock of Love: Charm School" and is a judge on "America's Got Talent," NBC's summer reality competition series, which brings the variety format back to the forefront of American culture.
Sharon Osbourne is a 21st century
The Sharon Osbourne the world now knows is the one made famous by TV, but it's also the sum of many other parts, parts that were constructed on the shop floor of a music business. Sharon was a mere 15 years old when she began her career as a receptionist for her father, Don Arden, a successful talent manager.
It was while working for her father that she first met seminal rock band Black Sabbath and their lead singer, John Michael Osbourne, known to one and all as "Ozzy." Sharon and Ozzy's paths crossed off and on over the ensuing years, and in 1979, she began managing Ozzy's career after he'd parted ways with Black Sabbath. Sharon and Ozzy found they were a match both professionally and romantically. The couple married in July 1982, and had three children: Aimee, Kelly and Jack.
Sharon has always believed in Ozzy's talent and over the past 25 years, she has served as the mastermind behind his truly unique career. Sharon and Ozzy formed Ozzfest in 1996, which has become the essential occasion of any summer of rock. She formed her own international company, Sharon Osbourne Management; created two record labels; became a concert tour producer; film producer and five-day-a-week talk show host; and started a charity – all while raising a family.
It was her family and their day-to-day lives that created a pivotal moment in modern television history. "The Osbournes," starring Ozzy, Sharon, Kelly and Jack, premiered in 2002 and took America by storm, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Non-Fiction Program. Sharon Osbourne also served as co-producer and executive producer of the series. Soon Sharon and her clan were grabbing national media attention and gracing the covers of Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, TV Guide and People.
In July 2002, Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer, and spent the rest of the year coming to grips with her own mortality, ravaged by chemotherapy and the accompanying sickness. Her decision to let the MTV cameras document her illness for the second season of "The Osbournes" was an opportunity to bring public awareness to the disease.
Fully recovered, she started the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program with the mission of providing free screenings and health care to those who can't afford it. Sharon has also lent her support of other charities as well as including the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. She recently appeared on the television event "Stand Up 2 Cancer," a commercial-free, primetime special to raise funds to fight cancer.
In 2004, Sharon joined forces with "American Idol's" Simon Cowell and signed on to be a judge on the No. 1 British talent show, "X Factor." Later that year, she was finally able to attend the Woman of the Year Awards in London to collect the award she'd won two years earlier but had been too ill to receive.
Sharon Osbourne's additional television credits include guest starring on "Will & Grace," NBC's "Days of our Lives" and "Punk'd," among many other American series. Plus, Sharon Osbourne hosted her own daytime talk show, "The Sharon Osbourne Show," and has appeared on "The 46th Annual Grammy Awards," "The 54th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards," "The 2003 MTM Video Awards," and "The 30th Annual American Music Awards." In summer 2007, Sharon was asked to be a judge on "America's Got Talent," the reality-competition series. The Osbournes hosted the Brit Awards in February 2008, and that fall, Sharon was seen as the headmistress on "Rock of Love: Charm School."
Sharon's autobiography, "Sharon Osbourne Extreme: My Autobiography," was released in September 2005 and showcased the voice and life story of one of the most resilient and multi-faceted figures in the public eye. The book sold over 2 million copies in the U.K., and won "Biography of the Year" at the 2006 British Book Awards.
