Sibel Kekilli stars in "Game of Thrones" on HBO as Shae.

German actress Sibel Kekilli was working as an administrative clerk when she was discovered by a casting agent in a shopping mall and won the coveted lead role in Fatih Akin's "Head On" over 300 other actresses. The 2004 film won many awards, including the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and the European Film Award. For her poignant performance, Kekilli won the German Film Award for Best Actress, as well as the Bambi Shootingstar Award. She also won Best Actress awards at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Dominican International Film Festival and the Zimbabwe International Film Festival. She went on to win Best Actress at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for her first Turkish film "Eve dönüs," (2006), in which she played a female worker during the Turkish military coup of 1980. Her other film credits include Joseph Vilsmaier's Holocaust drama "The last Train" (2006) and Hans Steinbichler's "Winter Journey" (2006) with Josef Bierbichler and Hanna Schygulla.

In 2010 Kekilli starred in Feo Aladag's "When We Leave," winning Best Actress from German Critics Association Awards and the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The film was chosen as Germany's entry for the category of Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

On German television, Kekilli starred in Dieter Wedel's two-part miniseries "Greed," had a recurring role in the series "Tatort" as Commissioner Sarah Brandt, and guest starred in "The Inspector and the Sea" and "Mordkommission Istanbul."
