Sonnet Simmons from "Rising Star" is one of the contestants featured in the ABC reality competition series. She sang "Wicked Game" by Chris Issak for her inaugural performance on the show, garnering an 81% vote on the East Coast and 80% on the West Coast.

Born in Athens, Greece, Sonnet Simmons was raised in a cult up until the age of six when she, her sister and her mother escaped. She grew up in Los Angeles and got an opera scholarship to UCLA, where she studied voice and changed her focus to Jazz. Currently she's a singer and songwriter but has also worked many other jobs, including ones as a waitress and bookkeeper. She plays piano and writes a lot of music for commercials and film.

Sonnet's hobbies include running, yoga, reading, writing and … fire dancing!
