Steven Legendre is a gymnast competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the USA. He is the 2011 world team bronze medalist, the 2010 U.S. vault champion, and the 2009 NCAA Champion.

Steven Legendre is an alternate for the U.S. men's gymnastics team. He is especially strong on floor and vault, but with a few misses on those events during the selection process, his training-mate Jake Dalton earned the spot.

Legendre earned a spot on the 2011 World Team after strong performances at the VISA National Championships. He finished second behind Oklahoma training-mate Jake Dalton on both floor and vault. Despite having similar strengths as Dalton, the duo's huge scoring potential on those two events earned them trips to Tokyo where the U.S. men took home the bronze medal. Legendre qualified for the floor final, too and finished fifth.

Legendre is a 2011 graduate from the University of Oklahoma. While in Norman, he claimed the 2009 NCAA all-around, floor, and vault titles. Legendre joins a long list of successful OU gymnasts, including his 2010 Worlds teammate Jonathan Horton.

With the number of competitors on the Olympic Team reduced from six to five, Legendre is aware of the added workload both for himself and his teammates in hopes of making it to London. "When you have less people on the team and have to compete the same amount of events, it increases the workload on everybody, and if you want to be competitive, you have to go out there and do everything," Legendre said. "I think a lot of us that are on the bubble, we have more specific goals on what we need to improve on because you have one less guy."

He finished sixth in the all-around at 2010 VISA Championships, but claimed the vault national title. Legendre earned a spot on the World Team, where he qualified for his second career event final on floor exercise.

Legendre is especially strong on vault and floor, which he lists as his favorite apparatus. "They're both my kind of events, quick and explosive," he told "I don't have to think as much for those events, so I actually get less nervous for floor and vault than I do for high bar or pommel and stuff like that because there's more of a focus and you have to try harder, almost. Floor and vault I just kind of let myself go and see what happens. So that's more enjoyable for me."

He became involved in gymnastics after both of his sisters, Jaime and Jessica, got involved in the sport. Jessica went on to play softball at Oklahoma. Legendre used to wrestle in high school.
