Ted Shackelford grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduated from the University of Denver where he studied English and Theater. It was in Denver that Ted Shackelford first worked professionally in the theater, appearing in such plays as "Night of the Iguana," "Detective Story," "Bus Stop" and "Play it Again Sam."
After moving to New York in 1972, Ted Shackelford landed his first major television role in the soap opera "Another World," while serving as an understudy in "Murder Among Friends" on Broadway.Ted Shackelford moved to Los Angeles in 1973, and began accumulating an impressive list of prime-time credits, including "The Rockford Files," "Soap" and "Hotel." Ted Shackelford is well known for his portrayal of Gary Ewing in "Dallas," a character he continued to develop in the show's spinoff, "Knots Landing."
In 1992, Ted Shackelford starred with Joan Van Ark in A.R. Gurney's popular two person play, "Love Letters," in Los Angeles. In 1994, Ted Shackelford starred in a science fiction/police drama titled "Space Precinct." Ted Shackelford's other credits include the tele-films "Harvest for the Heart," "The Spider and the Fly," "Miracle Dogs," "Cave In" and "Dying to Remember." In 2003, Ted Shackelford appeared in the off-Broadway production of "The Exonerated." Prior to that, Ted Shackelford appeared in the independent feature films "Jane White is Sick and Twisted," and "Sacred is the Flesh." Ted Shackelford has had guest appearances on "Crossing Jordan," "Savannah," "The Practice" and "Spin City."
