The Line from "The Voice" is one of the acts in Season 2 of the NBC reality singing competition series. The Line is a musical duo comprised of Hailey Steele and Leland Grant, who are both currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. Hailey grew up in South Dakota, while Leland is originally from Cocoa Beach, Florida. They are on Christina Aguilera's team.
The Line sang "American Girl" for their audition. All four judges turned their chairs around, but they chose Christina Aguilera to be their mentor.

Hailey says, "We met just over three years ago at a CMA after-party. I was interning for a small label in Nashville, and Leland was in town for some meetings, writing, etc. He walked up to me at the party and said, 'Hi, I'm Leland. You wanna go do a shot of Jack?' And the rest is history.
"But seriously, we started writing the next day. Eventually Leland moved to Nashville, and he would come to writers' rounds and we'd play the songs we had written. We both had a lot of random people come up to us and tell us how great we sounded together, but it wasn't until songwriter Stephony Smith encouraged us to be a duo that we decided to form The Line.
"Why did we pick the name The Line? The biggest reason is that we couldn't be more opposite — we are black vs. white, night vs. day, fast vs. slow — and you can draw a line right down the middle of us. It only takes about 30 seconds of dialog with us, and you'll get it.
"Musically, however, it works for some reason — maybe because we balance each other out. I started singing when I was two and a half (my first song was "You Are My Sunshine") and grew up on classic country and a little bit of Def Leppard. Leland started playing in bands when he was 15, and cut his teeth on 80s rock."
