In "The Will: Family Secrets Revealed," Investigation Discovery invites viewers on an emotional journey of family members dealing with the aftermath of a loved one's final wishes. Hotly contested and sometimes surprising, a person's last will is often a very telling sign of how they perceived their loved ones — a single document outlining the distribution of every penny, asset and heirloom formerly in their possession. Each episode of "The Will" presents the most curious and contentious real-life stories of family inheritance, capturing personal drama filled with conspiracies, mysteries, tension and turmoil. When someone dies, they can no longer cover up the secrets that they hid during their lifetime — from the truth of the value of their assets or their surprising debt to revelations of passionate affairs, long forgotten. "The Will: Family Secrets Revealed" is a unique series that explores a world where grief and greed collide.

Famous estates that are explored in this series include: the estate of Joan Crawford, who disinherited two of her four children from her will; Hank Williams fascinating estate, whose secret daughter was born just weeks after his untimely death; and the controversial estate of Doris Duke, who named her butler as trustee and executor of her $1.2 billion estate. The series also highlights famous billionaire Howard Hughes's disputed will and that of Rat Pack member Joey Bishop, whose live-in nurse and alleged girlfriend battled to get her share of the estate that she claimed she was promised. Other cases covered include a family's huge inheritance, squandered away by a shady lawyer; a woman who dies without any apparent legal heirs; and a tycoon whose relatives fight to prevent his daughter from inheriting his $150 million estate.

The first season culminates in a special titled "The Will: Outrageous Final Wishes." This special finale explores some of the most unusual and shocking last requests of the deceased, ranging from a woman who loved her car so much she demanded to be buried in it to a grandmother who was so angry with her grandchildren, she left her $12 million fortune to her dog.

Season 3

And you thought celebrities led dramatic lives? Just wait until they die for the real drama to begin. "The Will: Family Secrets Revealed" returns, featuring the outrageousness that abounds when the famous depart. With royalties and residuals up for grabs, celebrities leave behind a lot more than a mansion full of cash — they also have managers, mom-agers, mistresses, and family members who all want a piece of the pie. This new season runs the gamut in spotlighting superstars like Ritchie Valens, an up-and-comer who died young and will-less; Jerry Garcia, whose grateful heart promised too much to too many; and even child star Gary Coleman, who left behind a messy estate plan that pitted his ex-wife against his former best friend. In the premiere episode, "The Will" examines the estate of Tammy Wynette, the queen of country music. When her four daughters realized they had been denied their inheritance, they began questioning the events surrounding their mother's death, and launched a $50-million wrongful death lawsuit against their stepfather and their mother's physician. When the personalities are big but the pocketbooks are even bigger, now that's when things get really interesting.

"The Will: Family Secrets Revealed" Season 3 features the names you know, but also the details behind the tabloid scandals you've never heard. When guitar legend Jimi Hendrix died without a will, an epic family dispute erupted between his brother and his adopted sister over an estate worth $80 million. The soulful James Brown left almost everything to help underprivileged children, leaving his own children with almost nothing. Wealthy New York socialite Brooke Astor's grandson filed a lawsuit against his own father, claiming he forced Brooke to live in squalor during her last days. "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" author Stieg Larsson's will was invalidated because it lacked a witness signature, while "A Confederacy of Dunces" author John Kennedy Toole's mother worked hard to get his books published after his death ... and even harder to cut her husband's relatives out of the proceeds.

"The Will: Family Secrets Revealed" is produced for Investigation Discovery by CMJ Productions II Inc. with John Kuyk as executive producer.
