Tim Blake Nelson stars opposite Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski in the family film "Big Miracle" about a small town newspaper reporter who writes about three California gray whales trapped in the Arctic Circle.

Tim Blake Nelson is an established film director, writer and producer, as well as one of the busiest actors working in motion pictures. On television, he most recently starred in CBS's drama "Chaos" as Casey Malick.

He most recently wrote, produced, appeared in and directed the feature "Leaves of Grass," which starred Edward Norton and Richard Dreyfuss. Among his other film directorial efforts are the features "The Grey Zone," which he also wrote, "O" which is a contemporary adaptation of Othello that earned him a Best Director Award at the 2001 Seattle Film Festival, and his film directorial debut, "Eye of God," based on a play he wrote.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and educated at Brown University and the Juilliard Theater Center, he first became active as a playwright and actor within the New York theater community, starring in such productions as "Richard III," "Oedipus," "Troilus and Cressida," "An Imaginary Life," "The Baltimore Waltz" and, most recently, "The Beard of Avon," in which he portrayed William Shakespeare, "Les Bourgeois Avant-Garde," "Mac Wellman's Dracula" and "Twelfth Night."

His motion picture acting career began in 1992 with a small role in "This Is My Life." He soon found work in such films as "Amateur," "Donnie Brasco," "The Thin Red Line," "Hamlet," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" for longtime friends Joel and Ethan Coen, "The Good Girl," director Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report," "A Foreign Affair," "Holes," "Wonderland," "Meet the Fockers," "Crazy for Love," "Syriana," "The Darwin Awards," "Hoot," "Southland Tales," "The Astronaut Farmer," "The Incredible Hulk," "American Violet" and "Sin Bin," among others. Nelson most recently appeared in the films "Flypaper," "Yelling to the Sky" and "The Big Year."

He lives in New York City with his wife and three children.
