Ulrich Thomsen stars in "Banshee" on Cinemax as Proctor, an intimidating, wealthy local businessman who believes he is above the law. On the big screen, Thomsen recently starred in "The Thing" (2011), opposite Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgarton, as Dr. Sander Halvorson.

Ulrich Thomsen has worked with many acclaimed European directors and is one of Europe's most sought- after actors, having starred in more than 25 international productions. He was first introduced to worldwide audiences with his leading role as a member of Denmark's most dysfunctional family in Thomas Vinterberg's 1998 arthouse hit "The Celebration," for which he received his first Best Actor nomination at the European Film Awards. The film won the Cannes Jury Prize, among many others, and cemented the impact of the Dogma era in filmmaking history.

Thomsen's international feature films include "Season of the Witch," starring Nicolas Cage, "The World Is Not Enough," starring Pierce Brosnan, Kathryn Bigelow's "The Weight of Water," Menno Meyjes' "Max," Chen Kaige's "Killing Me Softly" and Ridley Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven," among others. He also starred in the 1998 Academy Award-winning live-action short film, "Election Night." His additional feature credits include "The Rocket Post," "The Zookeeper," "Centurion," "Adam's Apples" and "Mostly Martha." Thomsen has consistently garnered critical acclaim in films such as "The Biggest Heroes," "The Inheritance" and "Brothers," directed by Susanne Bier. Adding to his many accolades, he was presented with the Best Actor Award by the Danish Film Academy on several occasions. For his performance in "Brothers," he received a second European Film Award nomination for Best Actor and won the prestigious Silver Seashell Award for Best Actor at the San Sebastian Film Festival.



Recently, Thomsen reteamed with Danish director Susanne Bier on the Golden Globe and Academy Award Best Foreign Film winner "In a Better World."

On television, Thomsen guest starred on the hit series "Alias," the BBC miniseries "The Virgin Queen," the TNT miniseries "The Company," produced by Ridley Scott, and J.J. Abrams' "Fringe."

Thomsen divides his professional time between Los Angeles and Denmark. He lives with his wife and two children in Copenhagen.
