Valerie Tian stars in ABC's "Motive" as Officer Wendy Sung.

A shy individual, Valerie Tian never thought of pursuing acting. However, from the age of six, she wanted to be financially independent and experience what work was like, thinking it could be fun. Tian would always ask her parents if she could get a job, to which her parents reply was always you're too young! When Tian was ten she finally managed to convince her parents to register her in an acting class and has enjoyed acting ever since.

In the summer of 2001, Valerie auditioned for critically acclaimed Canadian director Mina Shum, while Shum was casting for her feature "Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity." Shum fell in love with Tian, and Tian won the leading role of Mindy Ho, a precocious 13 year old trying to bring her mother (played by Sandra Oh) love and lottery winnings with her magical powers. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2002, sold out at the Sundance Film Festival in 2003, and opened the LA Asian American Film Festival in 2003.

Tian's film credits now include "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," "Bob the Butler," opposite Tom Green and Brooke Shields, leading roles in the "The Wake of Death," opposite Jean Claude Van Damme and in the short film, "Chika Birds," (CHUM Television), winner of the Best Short Film at the 2004 Sproketts Children's Film Festival, and appearances in "X-Men 2," "The Santa Clause 2," "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer," "Drillbit Taylor," starring Owen Wilson, "Jennifer's Body," opposite Megan Fox, "Juno," starring Ellen Page, "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," alongside Logan Lerman, "Charlie St. Cloud," starring Zac Efron, and "21 Jump Street" with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatu.

On television, Tian recently played recurring roles in The CW's "Arrow" and ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." She was a series regular on The WB's "Black Sash," playing Russell Wong's daughter, and has appeared in episodes of "The 100," "Aliens in America," "Bionic Woman" and "The Days." In addition, she was seen in the AMC miniseries "Broken Trail," opposite Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church, and the Nickelodeon original movie "The Boy Who Cried Werewolf," starring Victoria Justice.
