Viktor Luna from "Project Runway" is one of the contestants in Season 9 of the Lifetime reality fashion design competition series. He is a 30-year-old freelance consultant for fashion companies and showrooms in New York City. He was raised though in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The first garment Viktor Luna ("Project Runway 9") ever made was a jean skirt with black cones on the back and a white button-up shirt. He first realized that he had potential as a designer when he was watching his mother sew and started playing with her machine and fabrics. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City and took some courses to enhance his knowledge, including ones in patternmaking, draping and design.
His favorite designers are Alexander McQueen, Boudicca, Cristobal Balenciaga, Prada, Marchesa, Zero+Maria Cornejo, Comme des Garcons and Thom Browne. Luna considers Prada, shoes, sunglasses, sports coats and bags, all to be fashion musts. He says his design strengths are structural shapes and voluminous silhouettes. Although flowy, soft fabrics always give him trouble, he says he manages. His goth/punk years are an influence on his design; he tries to apply the hard edge of that era while also bringing a sense of luxury and sophistication from the present. "Oh and sexy too," he says. When he's designing, he likes listening to Pink Floyd, Marilyn Manson, Smashing Pumpkins, Robyn, and many more.
