William Schallert stars in A&E's miniseries "Stephen King's Bag of Bones."

With over 300 movie and television credits to his name, William Schallert is perhaps best known as Martin Lane, the father on "The Patty Duke Show," the teacher Leander Pomfritt on "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," the admiral on "Get Smart," and Carson Drew on "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries." People also still recognize him from his guest role as the Federation Undersecretary Nilz Baris in the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode of the original "Star Trek."

Schallert continues to work steadily, appearing most recently in a recurring role in HBO's "True Blood" as Mayor Norris. He also was seen in HBO's movie "Recount," as U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens, and has made guest appearances in "Medium," "The Deep End," "According to Gym," "Desperate Housewives," "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody." In addition, he continues to lend his distinctive voice to commercial and animated projects.

He was president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1979 to 1981.
