Minxia Wu is a diver competing at the 2012 London Summer Olympics for China.

Wu Minxia is China's top 3m springboard diver, and she backs up that statement with a gold medal in the event from the 2011 World Championships. She's also part of China's top 3m springboard synchro team, the other member being He Zi. The tandem dove to gold at the 2011 Worlds and is the leading pair to win Olympic gold in London.

Wu used to be China's second-best springboard diver, with Guo Jingjing taking the No. 1 spot. But Guo retired in 2011, allowing Wu to slide into the top spot. The two were 3m synchro partners, so Wu and He were united and quickly gelled. Wu and Guo took gold in the synchro event at the 2004 Athens Olympics, with Wu finishing second to Guo in the individual springboard event. Wu earned silver behind Guo, and won gold in the synchro event with Guo, at the 2005 and 2007 Worlds. Guo won the Beijing Olympics 3m title over Wu.

In Sydney, Guo was paired up with Fu Mingxia for the synchronized springboard. But after Fu captured her fourth career individual gold medal as well as a silver in the synchronized springboard, she retired. Enter Wu, who started training with Guo in 2001. They quickly won their first gold at the 2001 World Championships, then successfully defended their world title in 2003 before winning gold in Athens.

Wu admits she was a little nervous the first time she began diving with Guo, but the two became good friends. They would encourage each other on the board before competing and when performing a standing dive, Wu gave the signal to go. When performing a dive with a running takeoff, Guo counted the start.

Wu was wooed by coaches from a local dance class and a diving club when she was a kid, but her parents chose diving for one reason: The club was closer to their house. The more she dove, the more Wu enjoyed the sport.

Wu and some of her teammates attended Renmin University of China in Beijing. They lived in an athletes-only dorm and their diving schedule had her training three full days and four half days every week, leaving little time for going to class. Their professors would visit the dorm to help with their studies.

Wu started diving at age 7 and left her family when she was 12 in order to train. Like Guo, Wu is an only child and attends People's University in Beijing. Her parents usually watch her competitions on television because it's too expensive to travel. She enjoys shopping and reading magazines and fiction.
